When You Book an Inspection

Our Inspectors will complete an inspection to determine if a ‘Certificate of Barrier
Compliance'(CBC) can be issued. This process involves checking your existing pool safety barriers against the relevant Australian Standards and other applicable regulations.

If your pool barriers comply, you will be issued with a ‘Certificate of Barrier Compliance’ (CBC) (Form 23) which you are required to lodge at your local Council. At this point, you will have complied with your legal obligations.

The cost of the Compliance Inspection is $385.

If your pool or spa is found to be non-compliant you will be provided with a detailed report that outlines the exact requirements to meet compliance. There are strict time frames that apply achieving compliance. You will be issued with a ‘Certificate of Barrier Non-Compliance’ (CBNC) (Form 24) in 60 days if you do not achieve compliance and not have the pool barrier reinspected. The CBNC is legally required to be lodged at the local Council by the Pool Safety Inspector. At this point, the Municipal Building Surveyor (MBS) becomes
involved and hefty fines can be incurred.

If your pool barrier is considered dangerous, then a ‘Certificate of Barrier Non-Compliance’ (CBNC)(Form 24) has to be issued immediately and you have only 7 days to rectify the dangerous issue(s). You have only 7 days to rectify the dangerous issue(s)and organize a re-inspection. Please see VBA website for what is considered dangerous.

A Re-Inspection is required to ensure the non-compliant items have been rectified and a
‘Certificate of Barrier Compliance’ (CBC) (Form 23) can be issued.

The cost of a Re-inspection is $220.
